One Big Diverse Family - Taylor Williams

Traditional ideas about what makes a family are often used to argue  gay marriage and other equal rights. Those arguments erase a large percentage of families that do not fit the mold of the ideal family of the past. Most families in the US are not ideal, but that does not make them invalid or unhappy. No family is perfect. As we have discussed in class previously, housewives who had perfect homes and happy families were still depressed because they hadn’t been able to pursue their own ambitions in life. Marriage is not necessary to lead a happy life or even to have a happy relationship. For some,  getting married can cause a relationship to stop being happy from the pressure to be with one person forever and the stresses of planning a life together. Becoming dependent on someone because of your desire to have children is, like splitting up the party to investigate a new location, a bad move.
